Debugging XML files in Flash

In Flash when a XML class is loaded it has a status property which return a value between 0 and -10.
Here are the values of those error.

  • 0 = No error
  • -2 = Character data (CDATA) not well terminated
  • -3 = XML declaration not well terminated
  • -4 = DOCTYPE not well terminated
  • -5 = A comment not well terminated
  • -6 = XML element malformed
  • -7 = Application out of memory
  • -8 = Attribute value not well terminated
  • -9 = Start tag did not matched an end tag
  • -10 = End tag without a start tag

    Eyetracking Study of web video

    On Jakob Nielsen’s site, there is a new alert about video on Internet. The problem of video with web : it’s boring ! We use to be active in front of a computer screen and not in front of a tv screen. So the video must be edited for the web (short and with motion) to avoid the user to get borred. Go check the eyetracking study to see where the user look.
    There are a few video guidelines also :

  • Keep it short
  • Avoid using video if the content doesn’t take advantage of the dynamic nature of the medium
  • Keep distracting elements out of the frame

    Flash Color Picker

    Colorpicker ToolsThis tip may sound funny for must of you but it was a discovery for me.
    When I used the “color picker” in Flash, I always thought that I can only pick colour in the Flash application. But in fact, you can use the color picker in all your screen even if the cursor icon of your mouse change like if he wasn’t listening to the flash application anymore.
    So this is the tip :

    the flash color picker Tools works in all your screen wide and not only in your flash application.

    I hope that I wasn’t the only one to be unknowing that one.

  • 9 : Research visibility in search engines
  • 10 : Think forward but act soon

    • I would just add to check carefully at the conpetitor, to know how hard is the fight going into your project type.
